Fat dissolving injections are suitable for most patients. The patients that are not suitable for fat dissolving are pregnant or breastfeeding patients or patients with the following conditions: auto-immune conditions, taking anticoagulation diabetes, anyone with a serious pathological condition, kidney or liver impairment.
The number of sessions recommended will be determined at the consultation phase, this depends on the amount of fat that is required to be dissolved and the area, some patients may see a result with as little as one session but this varies depending on the anatomy of the individual and the amount of fat to be dissolved
Fat dissolving injections are used for stubborn fat areas and are not suitable for patients who are seriously overweight or obese, in this category it is recommended to speak to your doctor about other alternatives to lose weight
It takes up to 6 weeks on average to see a result, the Aqualyx fat dissolving agent continues to work for up to 12 weeks post-procedure.
The area will be numbed beforehand with a lidocaine anaesthetic-based cream and in addition to this the injections are mixed with an anaesthetic so the area will be numb, patients may experience some mild discomfort, but it should not hurt.
It is recommended to leave it 4-6 weeks between sessions .
The main side effects of Aqualyx are swelling, bruising at the injection site and redness post-procedure, other rare side effects include necrosis and infection. Aqualyx has been trialled in many patients with great success and results.
The area will need to be kept clean and clear. You should avoid direct sunlight/heat or extreme cold weather for at least 48 hours after the procedure. Try to avoid touching the area as much as possible and avoid agitating/massaging the area. You may wish to take paracetamol but avoid blood thinners such as aspirin/ibuprofen or NSAIDs for 2 days before and after the procedure. Chemical peels/dermal peels are not recommended for 2 weeks post procedure. The area may be slightly itchy and swollen post procedure however if this persists or any signs of infection such as pus/weeping or excessive swelling should be reported back to your practitioner for immediate review.
